America Yesteryears eBook James Crutchfield
Americas Yesteryears is an incredible summation, in which James Crutchfield uses unique methodology to enlighten newbies and refresh oldies on American History. I never paid much attention to any history in school, so it was nice to read this with my thirteen year old nephew and learn new things together.Beginning in 1492 readers are given details on the arrival of Columbus, which is probably one of the few pieces of history etched in our heads, however Crutchfield recounts it with a youthful adaptation.Continuing through the years with historical events we know (or should know, but many do not), the author elaborates on details offering more than we learned in class. It is succinct, yet illuminating.
I especially loved the Lewis and Clark areas, which seemed more elaborative than other events, but then their expedition was vital to development of our country. Having recently watched L&C expedition on PBS, I still learned a couple of things that were not covered on the television documentary.
Americas Yesteryears ends in 1860 with details of how the Pony Express began via an advertisement soliciting skinny, wiry, men younger than age eighteen, and preferably orphans. Once again, Crutchfield offer a unique insight on the importance of youth in building this nation.
I hope this book becomes part of all schools as it is much more interesting than standard history textbooks!

If you are a history buff of any kind, you will thoroughly enjoy "America's Yesteryears".
